The Emperor of Bath

Helen Edmundson
THE EMPEROR OF BATH tells the stranger than fiction story of the last Emperor of Ethiopia and the English housekeeper who reluctantly tended him during his exile in Bath following the Italian invasion, by Mussolini and his fascist party, of Ethiopia in the lead-up to WWII. This is a portrait of an unlikely friendship forged by global events and how the fate of an unconquerable African nation was intertwined with the personal transformation of an ordinary British woman.
